I don’t think it is a secret but I really love Macs and Apple Computer!
I am currently saving up for a 24inch iMac and can’t wait to walk into the Apple store and buy it. There is one thing that I have been a little unsure of lately. Which is the fact that the iMac and all Macs for that matter aren’t really “upgradeable”. By upgradeable I mean there is no way to upgrade the motherboard, processor, or video card to keep up with technology. iMacs can have memory upgraded (to a limit) as well as the hard drive in all fairness. These upgrades are super easy for the normal user to do to boot!
I do believe that the current iMac configurations especially the one I am saving up for will do wonderfully for several years for general computing tasks(e-mail, web), as well as what I hope to spend most of my time doing: photo editing.
I do spend some time and show lots of interest in gaming as well. I played games on my current PC for a good amount of time, but recently I am finding that it just doesn’t have the power to keep up with the latest titles that have my attention today. As the iMac is configured and purchased today, I believe it would make a great gaming computer (running bootcamp with Vista of course) but what about next year, or the year after? Can it still keep up? Will my whole iMac system be rendered useless when it comes to gaming applications?
If I were to go the “Build your own PC” route I would also be able to build something that would be great with games now and for some time. The difference with the PC is that I have the ability to upgrade just the motherboard or processor or video card in the future and still keep the machine playing games with decent performance.
Granted, I believe I will desire spending much more time hanging out on zooomr and working on my photos and blog, but there is the occasional game that comes out that I would be interested in playing.
Maybe a good solution would be an iMac and an Xbox 360 or PS3? I already have a Wii and love every minute I spend playing it by the way.
Any suggestions?
